Screenshots are metadata now

Since June 2025 Apple reads the captions on your screenshots and ranks you on them. Write them as search terms.

In June 2025 the App Store started extracting the text from screenshot captions and treating it as part of your keywords. Apps whose captions repeated the terms in their name and subtitle rose; apps with captions like "Easy to use" or "All in one" fell. Unlike the three fields, repeating a term here is expected: the caption reinforces the term rather than being ignored.

Write each caption as something a person searches for. "Track sleep patterns" gives you "track sleep", "sleep patterns" and the whole phrase; "Wake up refreshed" gives you nothing. One theme per screenshot, the caption at the top where the reader (and the extractor) looks first, large, high-contrast, plain type, not laid over busy interface.

The first three screenshots still do the older job: they are the shop window in search results, and they decide whether the tap turns into a download. A caption that is a search term and a picture that shows the feature do both jobs at once.
