Localize in a day: which languages first
Each localization is another name, subtitle and keyword field wherever that language is indexed. The order to add them in, and what to put in each.
A localization is a full extra set of the three fields. It does not need a translated app; the store shows the localized metadata and the app can stay in English. That makes it the cheapest ranking work there is, and the work most listings never do.
Two localizations do most of the work. English (U.K.) is the default language of the storefronts that have no English (U.S.), so the same English terms in its fields reach all of them at once; the US store itself indexes several languages besides English, so a Spanish (Mexico) localization ranks you for Spanish searches typed in the US, where competition for a term is a fraction of the English one.
Then follow the ratings. The storefronts tab on the app's page shows where the ratings come from; a store sending ratings with no localization is the next one. Translate the terms, not the sentences: run the candidate terms through the explorer in that store, because "habit tracker" and its literal translation are not the same search in Germany.
Keep each localization's keyword field distinct. A word already in that localization's name or subtitle is ignored in its field, the same rule as the primary one, and every localization is judged on its own.
In order
- 01Add English (U.K.) with the primary fields copied; that covers every English-default store at once.
- 02Add the languages the US store indexes besides English, starting with Spanish (Mexico), with terms analyzed in the US store in that language.
- 03Open the app's storefronts tab. Every store sending ratings with no localization gets one next, in that store's default language.
- 04For each, analyze the translated terms in that store before placing them; keep the ones with popularity, drop the literal translations nobody types.
- 05Ship. Read positions per store after a week; the localizations planner shows what is still missing.
In the US store, read October 4
- 175 storefronts. By default metadata language: English (U.K.) in 135, Spanish (Mexico) in 16, French in 4, German in 3, Chinese (Traditional) in 3, English (Australia) in 2.
