Before you build

Know if anyone is searching for it.

Type the terms your idea would live on. See how many people search each one, who holds the top 10 today, and how many ratings it takes to get in. Save the list as an idea and come back when you ship.

  • 126 searches for a kind of app are winnable this week: popularity 25 or more, a top 10 a new listing can pass
  • Every term with its top 10 and 15 months of demand, so a fad reads as a fad
  • Ideas live beside your apps; the terms are checked nightly from day one

Keywords

Pick the ones you can actually rank for.

Popularity is Apple's own number. Difficulty is the ten apps in your way, with their ratings on the page. Your position sits next to both, in every store you sell in.

  • Up to 25 keywords at once, across every store you pick
  • The words in the names above you that your listing lacks
  • Position by day for every keyword you list, from the night you add it

Competitors

See who you're really up against.

Not a list you type. The apps in the top 10 of the terms you rank for, ordered by how many they beat you on. Open one and read what its users complain about, grouped, before you write your next release.

  • Shared keywords and who is ahead on each
  • Their ratings by storefront: where they are localized and you are not
  • Complaints, likes and requests, from the written reviews

Releases

Know if the release worked.

Every release is marked on every keyword's position line, so a change in the name or the subtitle can be read against the rank a week later, per term, per store. No more guessing from the downloads graph.

  • Positions by day with release markers
  • Visibility: popularity times position over every term the app ranks for, with the week's change
  • Ratings gained, chart places and their moves, per store

Guides

How the App Store ranks, restated every week.

Nine chapters on what decides a result and six playbooks that do it in order: validate an idea, the first ten keywords, launch week, localize in a day, a competitor's reviews, popularity 5. Each states what the US store looks like this week, from 7,471 terms read on October 4.

Questions people ask.

What is App Revs?
A free App Store optimization tool built on Apple's public data. Type a keyword to see how often it is searched, how strong the ten apps already ranking are, and where yours stands. Follow an app and its keywords, ratings, chart places and reviews are read every night.
Where do the numbers come from?
Popularity is Apple's own search popularity, read monthly from Apple Ads for 90 storefronts. Positions, ratings, charts and reviews come from the App Store's public endpoints. Difficulty is computed here from the top 10, with its inputs shown. There are no download or revenue estimates.
Is it free? Why?
Yes, all of it: unlimited keyword analyses in any store, nightly positions for every keyword you list, every app you follow, review summaries, the MCP server and an API key. No card, no trial. The data is public and one more user costs a few requests a night. If a paid tier ever comes it will be depth (more stores per app, longer history, seats), never the numbers themselves.
Why is popularity 5 for so many terms?
In late September 2025 Apple re-scored most mid-tail search terms to its floor value, 5, and left the head terms alone. A term at 5 is not dead: people still type it, Apple just stopped ranking its demand. Read its top 10 instead. If the apps there have thousands of ratings, the term still brings people, and the pages here show it as <5 rather than inventing a number.
Does it work outside the United States?
Yes. Keyword analysis and positions work in every storefront; monthly search popularity covers 90 stores, genre charts the 20 largest, and ratings the 46 largest. The public keyword pages and the weekly numbers in the guides are for the US store.
Can I use it from Claude, Cursor or ChatGPT?
Yes. The MCP server at api.apprevs.com/mcp exposes everything as tools. Stored data needs no account; your own apps and keyword lists take an API key from Settings. There is a REST API behind the same data.
How is it different from Astro or appkittie?
Astro is a Mac app at $108 a year with the same keyword numbers (popularity, difficulty, positions, the top 10) and a database that refreshes while the app is open. App Revs runs on the web, checks every night whether you open it or not, adds the apps above you with their reviews and ratings per storefront, and is free. appkittie sells estimated revenue and downloads and an ads library for finding apps to copy; App Revs shows no estimates and is for ranking the app you have.
